Vice, who's showbiz career skyrocketed as he take on the role of the only permanent judge in the hit talent-reality show "Showtime", confirmed that he will do the remake of Roderick Paulate's hit movie "Petrang Kabayo."
Paulate, who played the role of Petra, did the comedy "Petrang Kabayo at ang Pilyang Kuting" in 1988 with Aiza Seguerra, Manilyn Reynes, Janno Gibbs and Kristina Paner.
It was then followed by "Petrang Kabayo 2: Ang ganda-ganda mo" in 1990 with Gelli De Belen, Vina Morales and Amy Perez.
In a television interview, Vice said that it started as a joke and he definitely wasn't expecting to take on the role.
Viva Films, the film outfit that also produced most of the industry's notable films like "Bagets," "Sinasamba Kita," "Palimos ng Pag-ibig," "Saan Darating Ang Umaga?" among others, will handle 2010 "Petrang Kabayo" movie.
Vice said that it was box-office director Wenn Deramas who texted him of the good news.
"I was laughing with the text message of Direk Wenn. At first I thought it was a joke because we are always like that but when he said that he had a meeting with Viva, and that they (Viva) approved of me taking the role, that was the time I was shocked," the comedian said in the vernacular.
Vice also said that he's really nervous in taking on the role especially that Paulate's performance was very good in the original movie.
"Nababagabag na ako hindi na ako nakakatulog masyado (I kept on thinking about it and I can't sleep that much)," he said.
Vice added that he will try to incorporate his own way of making people laugh in the upcoming movie.
He added: "Ang galing galing ni Roderick Paulate kaya sabi ko hindi ko pwedeng gayahin yan kasi hindi ko matutumbasan yan (Roderick Paulate is very very good and I said to myself I can't copy his acting styles because I know I can't deliver that much)."
ABS-CBN Update – Comedian-host Vice Ganda has resumed filming his first movie, a remake of 1980s film "Petrang Kabayo."
It was January of this year when Vice Ganda announced his first major film. Three months later, however, the comedian confirmed the delay in filming “Petrang Kabayo.”
"Na-delay kasi ginawa din namin 'yong ‘Hating Kapatid’ ni Judy Ann (Santos) at Sarah (Geronimo). Pero eventually nag-start na nga kaya excited akong gawin, tapusin at ipalabas na para magpatawa sa mga tao," the resident judge of hit talent program "Showtime" told ABS-CBN News.
Vice Ganda, Jose Mari Viceral in real life, said when he first joined show business almost a decade ago, he never dreamed that he would eventually star in his own movie.
"Noong pumasok ako sa showbiz, ok artista, gagawa ng pelikula. Pero never kong na-foresee na ako ang bida talaga. Kaya sobrang blessed at nagpa-pasalamat ako at ini-enjoy ko ang moment," Vice Ganda said.
Before he attained his success, he said it was a “long journey” for him. "Sobrang pinaghirapan at sobrang ipinagdasal ko ito."
Vice Ganda said he owes his success to "Showtime." "Doon na-showcase kung ano ang kaya kong gawin as a performer, as a judge. At 'yon ang malakas ang impact sa mga manonood."
"Petrang Kabayo" is a film about an ill-mannered Petra who is cursed by Silveria, the godess of horses. The curse turns Petra into a white horse. He only returns to normal if he respects and treats people well.
The remake is being directed by Wenn Deramas.
